You run an online news site in New York known for its up-to-date coverage of breaking news. An explosion erupts in a building in Manhattan and all of its occupants have been evacuated. Your reporter is on the scene interviewing three witnesses of the explosion, who say a mother and child have been killed on the fifth floor. Your reporter cannot find a New York Fire Department source to confirm the information, and your calls to the NYFD command center go unanswered. Do you post the information?

I say don't post it By rule number 2. Do not lie because you don't know if the source is reliable and the information is the truth.
I would say to not post it because of commandment #3- Be a trustworthy surrogate. You don't want to lose your reader's trust.

I wouldn't post the information I currently have because I don't have enough details to inform the public. I'd be tempted to make up extra info which is against commandment 2 of the journalistic commandments. This is to say I wouldn't report the information from the witnesses. It's obvious there was an explosion, so this would be the only credible information to post. The dialouge of the witness can come later as a follow up to the matter.

I would run the story, yes. I just would not give out any names and I would run something along the lines of "A mother and a child have been said to be killed but, there is no confirms of this being true" I would only do so to let people know the extreme of the explosion.

I would post this story because it is interesting and people would want to know about the details of the explosion but in my story I would say that wittnessess claimed that a mother and a child have been killed in the explosion but I would make it clear to the readers that nobody from the fire department or anywhere has confirmed this. I would not use the information. There is no guarantee that it is accurate. Witnesses have probably been traumatized so it is probable that they could be confused. People could have had relative who were a mother and child in that building so you don't want to cause them any unnecessary grief. Using the information simply wouldn't be good reporting.

i would use the information but say its uncomfirmed deaths or that you got it from a source and are still waiting to fully confirm the death number from the accident. that way you are going with commandment #2 do not lie you are letting you readers no exactly what your getting saying it uncomfirmed lets them no it may not be real. that way your readers will still trust you.
I wouldn't use the information given because it could end up to be untrue and cause a lot more trouble than its worth and families would be affected by it, not knowing it didn't happen.

I wouldn't. If you print it saying that they did die, you'd become the joke of the internet. Do not lie. If you don't have all the facts, don't print it.

I would post the fire in the department,but I wouldn't say anything about the deaths for I don't want to to lie or mislead anyone. On the other hand they deserve to know whats happening so i'll say it happened

I do not think you should post the story. Although there are 3 people telling you the same thing they could have false information which could make you look foolish and bring your online news website reputation down. I would wait to get a confirmation from the fire department.
